>A graphic is said to be transparent when the background of your web page "shines through". Notice the flowers below. The original image has a white background color. By setting the transparency to white, we make that square go away. In this example, you'll notice the transparant image is clean. This is what we're after.

I know what you're thinking. "Oh no, not more ducks!" As you'll remember from the previous page, when we enlarged the image of the duck, the background that had appeared to be white was actually a number of different light colors. This happens all too frequently. If you have an image you can't seem to make transparant, this is a likely cuase. The first duck is the original image. The second is the first attempt at transparency. The 3rd is a transparency with tolerance set to 25. The fourth has transparency with a tolerrance of 35. As you can see, this image is marginally useable. The higher the tolerrance, the more colors that are similar to the one we're excluding (white) will be ignored and thus made transparent. The downside is that these colors will also be removed from the foreground image.

I'm tired of looking at ducks, take me back to the main Graphics page..
